This is My Story

My passion for fitness began with group exercise…well, dance really. My career, although I didn’t know it at the time, un-officially started in the garage of my childhood home at the age of about 6. Armed with a tape player, a copy of K.C. and the Sunshine Band’s “Shake Your Booty”, and a couple of friends that didn’t mind being told how to move and when, a love affair with fitness was a-brewin’.

At 16, when I stepped into a group exercise studio for the first time to take a class live, it was like being electrified (in the best way). I felt happy, healthy, motivated, and inspired by not only the instructor, but the energy that was being created by my fellow participants. It wasn’t long before I realized that I could inspire numbers of others to feel the same fabulous sensations I felt. I had found my place in the world! After teaching for a couple of years and witnessing the impact that I could have on the health and happiness of my community, I decided that I wanted to make my life’s work helping others have fun in fitness.

While my professional journey began with group exercise instruction and personal training, I promptly found my place in fitness management. I would go on to spend the next 14 years successfully climbing the fitness management ladder with companies/organizations like 24hour Fitness, The Y, and MediFit at Google. Athough I received tremendous satisfaction from the work that I was doing, I found that the farther up I climbed the further away I got from what truly inspired me – the people I served!

It took an earth shattering event, the loss of my beloved aunt to cancer, to help me realize that I was far more stressed-out than I was blissed-out by the way I was living my life. And while I had a few key life events occur that contributed to the stress I experienced, the path my career had taken was a major contributing factor. Taking the sage advice of my late aunt, who always encouraged me to slow down and savor the simple things (insert “Shake Your Booty” here), I decided to re-prioritize my life and make changes that would bring me closer to bliss. I walked away from my management position in corporate fitness at a company Fortune rated #1 best place to work and returned to what got me started in the fitness biz in the first place. As a result, I have re-ignited my passion, am optimizing my wellness, and am reconnecting with the most important people in my life – my family.
